NAHA is pleased to offer its “Artistry and Industry of Norway” tour, June 18–26, 2022. Traveling by bus from Oslo to Bergen, we will explore cultural, industrial, and agricultural history in the heart of Norway. Stops include the Telemark Canal (pictured here), Hotel Dalen, fish and fruit farms in the Hardanger region, the Oleana knitwear factory, and the Rjukan-Notodden Industrial Heritage Site (designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Along the way we will soak in spectacular natural beauty, experience the long days of midsummer, and enjoy delicious cuisine.
NAHA Editor Anna Peterson, associate professor of history at Luther College, will guide the tour, and Amy Boxrud, executive director of NAHA, will host it. Contact Betina at Borton Overseas to reserve your spot by April 1.
Optional Seminar: Tour participants can also consider attending the seminar of our partner organization, NAHA-Norge, at the Norwegian Emigrant Museum near Hamar, June 15–18. Postponed from 2020, the seminar is titled “Nordic Identity Formation in a Transnational Context.” NAHA editor Anna Peterson is one of three keynote speakers. In addition to tapping into the latest research in Norwegian-American studies, participants will enjoy tours of the Emigration Museum and the nearby Kristen Flagstad Museum, a concert at Hamardomen, a banquet, and more. The seminar will be held just prior to the NAHA tour, making it convenient to participate in both of these opportunities. Look for seminar details as they are available on the NAHA-Norge website.
